The BMJ Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of the British Medical Association, publishes 24 other journals that focus on medical specialties. The BMJ Group’s content includes original research, reviews, news and editorial pieces that focus on evidence-based medicine. The BMJ Group also publishes annual theme issues. Some of the previous themes include Global Voices on the AIDS Catastrophe, Management of Chronic Diseases, Health in Africa, and a special Christmas issue.
The BMJ Group has an open peer review system. The authors are told who reviewed their manuscripts. Approximately one half of the articles that are sent in for review are initially rejected after being reviewed in-house. In fact, the acceptance rate for the BMJ and other journals put out by the BMJ group is less than 7% for original researched articles.
The journal is published both in print and on the internet, and most of the e-letters to the editor are published on the internet as well. BMJ has also been completely online since 1995.
