Description
All Charleston County Employees, as a condition of employment must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide their vaccination card.
This position's principal function is to monitor the agency's social media activity and postings, write content for external and internal use, and respond to public commentaries and questions. This includes the production of professionally edited and formatted social media postings through the use of writing, graphics design, video and photography. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Public Information Officer, but extensive leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.
Salary Range: $60,507 - $82,305 (Estimated Annual Salary)

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties are, but not limited to, the following: providing assistance to the Public Information Officer (PIO), managing social media accounts daily, assisting in social media outreach and website content development, assisting with planning and organizing community events, media events, and press conferences; helping to develop video and audio media for presentations, awards ceremonies, promotions, public service announcements and public education/awareness campaigns; performing livestream or recorded interviews, ceremonies, presentations, press conferences, news releases as directed by the PIO; uploading and occasionally recording videos to be posted on social media and for internal use; and other duties as directed by the PIO.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English or a related field from an accredited institution; or 3 years of experience in Media or Public Relations; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work
Minimum Qualification:
Bachelor's Degree OR 3 years' experience in Media or Public Relations OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. Must have a thorough knowledge of local media outlets; media/public relations; operations, functions, policies, procedures of the local criminal justice system; and the latest social media platforms and communications methods.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with outside agencies, community groups, and the general public.
May be required to occasionally work evenings, holidays or weekends as directed by the PIO. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe graphics design software. Experience with video editing software and/or proficiency in Associated Press (AP) Style are a plus. Candidates may be asked to provide a writing sample. Must submit a certified typing score of at least 30 CWPM, taken within the last six months, at the time of application. Only tests taken at, and certified by, Alternative Staffing or the SC Department of Employment and Workforce are accepted.
