Description
This is a sessional position with the Research Division of the Texas Legislative Council, an independent nonpartisan legislative support agency, running through the end of May 2023. Duties include editing legislative documents, online content,
print publications, memoranda, and correspondence. Works with research staff to ensure accuracy of drafts. Assists with complex administrative support tasks. Work is performed under supervision of senior staff and in compliance with prescribed
procedures.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for this position include: Digitally editing documents produced by research staff (including resolutions, bill analyses, memoranda, and online content) for grammar, spelling, accuracy, and form.
Working with drafters and reviewers to ensure accuracy.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Skill in organizing information.
Skill in producing quality work within time limits.
Skill in interpersonal relations.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word.
Outstanding accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
Interest in state legislature and political system.
Skill in expressing material accurately, clearly, and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Skill in analyzing and presenting information in a neutral, unbiased manner.
Skill in meeting project specifications and deadlines.
Skill in accepting and incorporating feedback.
Skill in working independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of material and information.
Ability to work overtime, flexible hours, and occasional on-call duty.
Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
Ability to maintain regular attendance.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or a related field. Copyediting or proofreading experience preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
Thorough knowledge of grammar, syntax, vocabulary, spelling, and general rules of style.
Ability to quickly learn new procedures and computer applications.
